Integrated Basketball at the Little Big Horn: a 1957 Success Story tells the incredible story of Larry Pretty Weasel’s accomplishments on the basketball courts of Montana’s high schools and how this phenomena led to the loosening of decades of a biracial social system. Led by Larry and his mates on the basketball court and off, racial barriers in place for decades began to break down as Native American and whites got behind the first Hardin High School team to start three Indians and two whites. Members of both races still measure the accomplishments and successes of young high school players against those of Larry’s—some of which have been on the books for more than 60 years.
This book details the shifting attitudes of the tenants of Big Horn County and the Native American boy who helped inspire those changes.
