Wade is born in hard-time Harlem in 1972. His mother dies giving birth to him and so the neighbors, who were good friends with her, agree to raise Wade, his brother, and sister. Otis, the oldest brother, has it the hardest growing up. He then gets off into a criminal lifestyle. When a gang member rival of Otis’s rapes his sister, Otis loses all control and kills him thus sending him to prison. Wade then graduates from high school and then college and makes a huge impact in the urban community for young men that had a similar troubled life like Otis.
